YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN!

WHILE HELPING TO LOOK FOR A WWII SUBMARINE WE FOUND CORAL FORMATIONS THAT APPEAR TO BE UNIQUE TO THE WORLD!

We have just completed an underwater mapping project using a side scan sonar and magnetometer of a 12 mile stretch of the coast south of Purto Aventuras, Mexico where the Primrose is located, close to Ascension Bay. We where looking for a WWII Sub called the "Dorado". The Dorado a US sub sunk by our own planes in the eastern Caribbean. The files where declassified by Doug Campbell just last year. The US government said for all these years that they did not know what happen to the Dorado. The declassified files showes the logs book, recovered after the war, from a German sub that witnessed the attack. The story as to why we where looking in this area is a long story for another time. The project was Headed by Pilar Luna head of the Under Water Historical Society, a Mexican government agency and Douglas E. Campbell, Ph.D., President & CEO Syneca Research Group, Inc, Washington, DC.

The Sub was not there but the mapping turned up Coral Formation unique to the world and these sites have never been researched. From the data we now have we know that this will be one of the most sought after coral formation for Research and divers for years to come. We are trying to get back there as soon as we can to document the area. (This information is supported by the National Geographic Magazine (NGM) as to being unique to the world). The NGM has requested photos and article of the coral formations through the group that sponsored the expedition headed by Douglas Campbell. We plan to pursue the discovery and exploration of this area with great enthusiasm. CRF will be the leading in these new coral formation discoveries. The first return trip is slated for August after we receive the full report from the sonar readings. We are trying to return with 3 – 6 man dive teams to try and map, photograph, and video the area both day and night. This will be step one in the study of this area. This discovery has preempted all of our other studies for the near future. We are very excited to say the least. These formation are thirty foot high pillars on top of coral ridges or canyons tops. Also a horse shoe shape hole with coral formations inside. This is a fairly large area and will take some time to survey, map, photograph and video the area. Anyone interested in joining us as a research assistant diver, contact Robert Eastburn project manager for CRF;

Our Mission

Preserve the coral reefs systems of the world for future generation.

The Coral Reef Foundation will study the reef system of the world, to develop a scientific database in which to expand programs for knowledge and to develop stewardship polices to protect the reef systems from environmental and man inflected decay. Our studies focus is to enhance understanding through education of the Eco reef systems, both the surrounding water and the land outfall watersheds that feed them. We intend to develop safe and productive dive programs for recreational and commercial divers, which include sport and commercial harvesting of sea life surrounding the Reef Eco Systems. The participation of the collected scientific database will be done in part by the very people that use the undersea world the most and that is the worldwide diving community. These divers will participating in the research done on the R/V PRIMROSE. Offering the dive community a hands-on experience at protecting the environment that they all cherish while helping the Coral Reef Foundation with a solid way of funding the project. These divers will pay for the experience to work in all aspects aboard the R/V PRIMROSE and to help in the collection of scientific data used in preservation policy making. Our scientific data and knowledge will be made available to all who ask. We will work with NOAA, NASA all Governments, environmental and scientific agencies and organizations in an effort to raise the awareness to educate the public in preserving the reef systems for future generations. The true meaning of “Preserve” may be unachievable, but a Goal, none the less.

Finally, our goal is to educate and have an outreach program for colleges and universities offering a summer graduate program: to promote the conservation of marine ecosystems as well as an effective and sustainable use of marine resources, which relates to economic stability for the Sea.
